Dennis Hefter (born March 4, 1993 in Worms ; † February 23, 2015 in Leuna ) was a German volleyball player .

Career

Hefter played volleyball for the first time in a school club after he had previously been more interested in football . He started his career at TuS Worms-Hochheim . From there he went to the national league team SV Steinrechen . After the tenth grade, he was discovered by scouts in 2009 and continued his athletic training at the volleyball boarding school in Frankfurt . There he was retrained by the attacker to become a libero. In 2011 Hefter took part with the German juniors at the U19 European Championship in Ankara , where the DVV selection remained without a win. In the 2012/13 season he played with VC Olympia Berlin in the Bundesliga. He was then signed by the Bundesliga club Chemie Volley Mitteldeutschland , where the junior coach Ulf Quell had just become the new head coach.

Private

Hefter's parents played volleyball in minor leagues. His father Michael is the coach of the second division team TGM Mainz-Gonsenheim . Hefter was in a relationship with the heptathlete Carolin Schäfer until his death .

In the late evening of February 23, 2015, Dennis Hefter was hit by a train at the Leuna-Werke Nord stop while crossing the tracks and was fatally injured. Apparently he was wearing headphones and not using the underpass.
