Denys N. Coop

Denys N. Coop (born July 20, 1920 in Reading , † August 16, 1981 in London ) was an English cameraman.

Life

Coop worked as a camera assistant and cameraman on numerous films, some of which were very successful, such as The Third Man , until he was appointed head cameraman for the first time in 1960. His camera style corresponded to the strongly documentary-oriented Free Cinema that developed during these years. Coop was responsible for the camera work for several films by John Schlesinger and Lindsay Anderson . He later also photographed horror films by Roy Ward Baker, among others . In 1979, Coop was awarded the Oscar of Honor together with other responsible persons for working on the visual effects of Superman . From 1973 to 1975 he was President of the British Society of Cinematographers .
