Double Man is a 1967 spy thriller starring Yul Brynner and Britt Ekland .

action

The film takes place during the Cold War . The Soviet leadership has decided to replace key CIA official Dan Slater with a double named Kalmar. To lure Slater out of the CIA center, the 16-year-old son Slaters is murdered while skiing in Kalmar in the Austrian Alps . Slater goes in search of the murderers and initially falls into the trap of the enemy: he is exchanged, his former friend, the British ex-spy Wheatley, who has retired into private life and now runs a ski school, does not notice the exchange. In the carnival hustle and bustle, Slater escapes the enemy and a showdown takes place in a cable car station , which the real Slater survives.

In the course of his investigation, Slater tracks down Gina, the private secretary of the wealthy Mrs. Carrington, and falls in love with her. In the cable car gondola, Gina recognizes the hooded Slater or Kalmar as the murderer and marks him in a dispute with 3 scratches on his left cheek so that the audience can tell Slater (without scratches) and Kalmar apart.

Slaters' superior, Edwards, appears to be suspicious of the matter. He orders Slater back.

criticism

"Somewhat confused agent film, which only reaches some tension in the second half."

"Honest crime film, as light entertainment with a dash of tension from 16."

Motifs

The main motif is the interchangeability of people, which is directly addressed in the conversation between Slater and Kalmar.
