Denys Fisher

Denys Fisher (born May 11, 1918 in Leeds , England , † September 17, 2002 in Furness , England) was an English toy manufacturer and game designer .

After studying mechanical engineering at the University of Leeds , Fisher worked for the family-owned company Kingfisher before setting up his own business with Denys Fisher Engineering in Leeds in 1960 . In the new company he developed a bomb detonator for NATO . In 1962 he reinvented the children's toy Spirograph (after Bruno Abakanowicz's invention of the same in the 19th century) , which he patented in 16 countries and which he presented at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in 1965 .

In 1970 he sold his company, which was now called Denys Fisher Toys , to the US company General Mills . The company continued to produce games and toys and was later acquired by Hasbro . In the 1980s, Fisher worked for Hasbro and developed the spirograph further.
