The Department General Belgrano is located in the east of the La Rioja Province in northwest Argentina and is one of 18 administrative units in the province.

It borders on the Chamical Department to the north, the Province of Cordoba to the east, the General Ocampo Department to the south and the General Juan Facundo Quiroga and General Ángel V. Peñaloza departments to the west .

The capital of the General Belgrano Department is Olta .
