The begging student is a German silent film by Jakob Fleck and Luise Fleck with Harry Liedtke , Agnes von Esterhazy and Maria Paudler in the leading roles. The model was the operetta of the same name by Carl Millöcker .

The film is largely based on the well-known story of the operetta. Poland at the beginning of the 18th century. The country is in upheaval and is being stirred up by revolutionary forces. The two poor students, Simon and Jan, landed in prison, and at the behest of the Polish governor of Cracow, Colonel Ollendorf, play a prince and his secretary. But they can outsmart the officer and win the hearts of Countess Nowalska's daughters, Laura and Bronislawa. But even Colonel Ollendorf does not go away empty-handed at the end of this cheerful story, but gets the countess as his wife.

Production notes

The begging student originated in Staaken in September and October 1927, passed the censorship on December 19, 1927 and was premiered in the same month in Berlin's Primus-Palast. The film was 2,623 meters long, divided into six acts. The film was released for the youth.

Rudolf Walther-Fein was in charge of the artistic direction. Botho Höfer and Hans Minzloff created the film structures, and Walter Tost was in charge of production .

criticism

The Österreichische Film-Zeitung wrote: “The directors J. and L. Fleck knew how to stage this story with skill, speed and pleasure. The whole plot, which is not in itself new, was given a different direction by the old countess being betrothed to Colonel Ollendorf. Harry Liedtke and Ernst Verebes played the two students very humorous. (...) The photographers Lamberti and Seeber did a consistently good job. "
