The blue light report (that's how it is spelled) is a pseudo-docu-soap format from RTL about the work of various professional groups such as fire brigade , police and rescue services .

content

In the broadcast, missions of various professional groups were re-enacted. The missions were often based on actual events. In some cases, however, there was also a great deal of fiction. The broadcaster RTL, however, attached great importance to the fact that the performing police officers actually have an adequate professional background, i.e. are or were either active or at least former officers of the federal or state police . In an interview, the actor PHK Hannes Sauer confirmed that all of the police officers were real police officers. The supporting roles were filled with professional actors or amateur actors. The investigating police officers were not given a script and had to act as they would in their daily work and initiate measures at the filming locations; the amateur actors played a scenario using a script that the police officers had to moderate and resolve.

Charisma

The first broadcast took place on August 24, 2015. Previously, episodes of the series were already running on a test basis under the title Suspected Cases . Due to the sometimes very high rates of over 20% at the time, the broadcaster dedicated a separate slot to the blue light report every day from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Since 2016, another episode has been running from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Other scripts (e.g. Eyewitness Special , Wache Köln Ost , Fraud Cases Special ) were now also sent under the name Blue Light Report . The last episode was broadcast on May 19, 2017, and RTL discontinued the Blaulicht Report on May 22, 2017, but repetitions were still shown at the usual broadcast time. The Eyewitness Special Blue Light Report was produced by Filmpool from summer 2016 until summer 2017, the last episodes of which were broadcast until March 2018. On April 16, 2018, however, RTL decided to completely remove the Blaulicht Report from the daily afternoon program due to the steadily decreasing audience interest and initially to replace it with the scripted reality series Meine Geschichte - Mein Leben . After that, RTL repeated the blue light report again before the broadcaster installed a new format on the 2 p.m. broadcasting slot on August 27, 2018 with the junk show The Super Dealers - 4 Rooms, 1 Deal . Since then, the series has only been repeated on weekends and at different times of the day. Since March 18, 2019, two episodes in a row have been broadcast in the morning program of RTL from Monday to Friday between 10:00 and 12:00.

Investigating police officers / rescue team

There were regular new faces among the actors of the police. From the beginning there and the main characters included the patrol officers Martin Hintzen, Lars Greiner (played by Martin Scheidt), Julian Zimmling (played by Paul Philipp Altmann), Pia Momsen, Markus Singer, Christian Dillenbach, Holger Peters and Thomas Michels. The originally investigating patrol officer Julia Renzmann was later no longer used. She was followed by the characters Tessa Kemper and Manuela Jablonski. Police chief commissioner Lars Greiner has also not been on duty since spring 2016. For the male roles came Axel Breuer, Hannes Sauer, Patrick Stiller, Piet Niedermeier, Nico Scheuer, Dario Kovac, Uwe Schneider, Steven Trang, Jasper Hendricks, Benjamin Schütze, Felix Borchert, Jan Hagmeier (played by Martin Illenseher), Hauke Mertesacker ( played by Oliver Ritz) and Dennis Sommer (played by Raphael Kömp). The rescue team had Tolga Seker as paramedic and Holger Liebermann as emergency doctor from the start. The third rescue member provided the company Fire & Rescue Service (FRS) for production.

background

The programs were available on TVNOW for up to 30 days after they were broadcast . All episodes were filmed in Hürth , Cologne and the surrounding area. Although the officers used "Arnold" as the nickname for the control center, Cologne is not used as a location. The street names were mostly fictitious.

criticism

In his section Das Hoff zum Sonntag in the media magazine DWDL.de , Hans Hoff criticized the fact that the law enforcement officers were just a playing area on which RTL lived out his “quota addiction”. He also noted that, especially at the time of the refugee crisis, newcomers to Germany may get the impression from the program that they can deal with police officers relatively risk-free. But especially in times when the state of the police in Germany is not the best anyway and their behavior is perceived as too lax, the image of the police conveyed by the broadcast could possibly even come closer to reality than one suspected a year ago could.
