Families in focus was a pseudo-docu-soap on the private television broadcaster RTL Television . People and cases of conflict were fictitious ( scripted reality ); the protagonists were played by amateur actors .

In the program, a camera team followed families with conflicts that concern family courts, such as custody disputes or divorce . All episodes were filmed in Hürth, Frechen, Brühl and Cologne, some of which were then passed off as other cities.

The Polish version of the format is called “Trudne sprawy”, in German “Difficult Matters”, and is broadcast on the Polsat channel. Since October 25, 2010, the RTL group's private television broadcaster Alpha TV has been broadcasting a Greek adaptation of the format. The show is called Ikogeniakes Istories (Family Stories).

Charisma

The first 75 episodes were broadcast on RTL from August 31, 2009 to December 11, 2009. From December 14, 2009 to January 8, 2010, the series was repeated again with the first episodes. From January 11, 2010 the remaining episodes ran.

After families in the focal point achieved good quotas in the following years, they fell steadily over time. From 2013, RTL broadcast the format as part of its afternoon program only with only older episodes as a repetition; on August 25, 2014 the series was removed from the daily program. Older episodes are only broadcast again on weekends and at night.

Odds

The show achieved the highest audience rating with 1.60 million viewers (35%) in the target group of 14 to 49 year olds on October 18, 2010 (as of October 2010).
