Alpha TV is the third largest commercial television broadcaster in Greece . He has a nationwide broadcast license.

The broadcasting center of the station is in Kantza , an eastern suburb of Athens . Between 2008 and 2012, the RTL Group held the majority rights to the channel.

history

The station was founded in 1993 by the Greek newspaper publisher Ioannis Alafouzos and went on air on September 20 of the same year under the name SKAI. Almost six years later the station was renamed Alpha, the renaming took place shortly after the private television station was bought up by the Greek businessman Dimitris Kontominas . On September 24, 2008, the RTL Group got involved in the television station, the sale was approved by the State Media Authority in December and was considered completed on December 17. The media giant from Luxembourg held the absolute majority with 66.6%, while Kontominas kept 33.4% of the station's ownership. In 2012 Kontominas bought back the shares and the RTL Group withdrew from the Greek media world.

With the acquisition of the television station by the RTL Group, it received a completely new program structure. The station also established new television formats, unknown in Greece, such as docureality shows and real-life formats, and increased its reach, especially in the advertising-relevant target group, which in Greece is 15 to 44 years old.

In the morning

ALPHA broadcasts numerous entertainment and news programs from Monday to Friday. From 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., a morning magazine called Pano stin Ora is broadcast. This is followed by a three-hour live entertainment show, which is filled with gossip, the daily horoscope for all zodiac signs, cooking sections, interviews and health topics. Eleni Menegaki will moderate the format. Kafes me tin Eleni (coffee with Eleni) has particularly high ratings among the female audience .

At the weekend, at 10 a.m., ALPHA broadcasts the morning magazine Mes tin Kali Chara (Totally in joy), which can be compared to the live entertainment show Kafes Me tin Eleni .

Noon

At 1 p.m. the first news program with the journalist Maria Nikoltsiou is broadcast. The 15-minute program consists of national and international news, the focus is on political and economic topics of the day. At 13:15 the program Kous Kous to mesimeri (gossip at noon) is broadcast. The tabloid magazine analyzes and deals with topics about celebrities from home and abroad. At 4 p.m. the peculiar live broadcast Deste Tous follows , which deals with numerous topics from the world of television in a playful and funny way. A 5-minute news program for the deaf will then be broadcast, which, like the news program at 1 p.m., will be moderated by Maria Nikoltsiou. Ikogenies Istories is from 6 p.m. The pseudo-docu-soap is a Greek adaptation of the families in focus . At 7 p.m. the main news will follow, moderated by the Greek journalist Antonis Sroiter. In addition to a selection of broad political and economic topics, the viewer is also informed about lifestyle topics.

Monday - Friday

Every Saturday the TV station broadcasts its noon news at 2 p.m. As on weekdays, the duration is limited to 15 minutes. The weekend editions will be moderated by the journalist Efi Alivizou. This will be followed by the British reality show How Clean is your House? . From 3 p.m., repeats from the weekday prime time follow. This program is only interrupted from 5 p.m. Then the news for the deaf runs. The main news at 7 p.m. will be moderated by Nikos Manesis.

Saturday

On Sundays, the same goes for the noon news at 2 p.m. on Saturdays. This is followed by the horoscope program Stars System . The astrologer Asi Biliou deals with the 12 zodiac signs in her program. Two documentary programs from America will follow from 3 p.m.: Underdog To Wonderdog and Outrageous Animals . The news program for the deaf, moderated by Evi Alevizou, runs for five minutes. The Saturday evening program will be repeated from 5:05 p.m. Nikos Manesis also moderates the main news at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Sunday

Primetime autumn

Prime time for the commercial broadcaster ALPHA begins at 8 p.m. Then the successful real-life cooking format Kati Psinete will be broadcast. The show is successfully established in Germany under the title The Perfect Dinner on VOX. From 9 p.m. the station will broadcast weekly programs. Including a film zone on Monday called ALPHA BLOCK OFFICE. The station's most successful program, Al Tsantiri Niouz , runs on Tuesdays . The presenter, actor and columnist Lakis Lazopoulos is leading the satirical program, which even has a 60% audience rate among the advertising-relevant audience. On Wednesdays, the real-life formats Gia Logariasmo sas (For Your Account), a Greek adaptation of Get Out of Debt and Spiti apo tin Archi (A House from the Beginning), which helps people renovate houses. On Fridays, the station relies on a repetition of the episode of Al Tsantiri Niouz broadcast on Tuesday .

From Monday to Wednesday, the TV station broadcasts the Ikogeniakes Istories program from 11 p.m. to midnight . These are mainly episodes that have already been broadcast. The late-night show Vrady me ton Petro Kostopoulo (evening with Petros Kostopoulos) runs on Thursdays. On Fridays from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., ALPHA broadcasts an American feature film. The feature film zone is called ALPHA BOX OFFICE.
