The dripper

The fountain with the sculpture “Il gocciolatoio” is located in Bremen - in the middle of the Marktstrasse in front of the entrance to the Börsenhof. It is included in the list of fountains in the city of Bremen .

The first version of the bronze sculpture from 1962 based on a design by the artist Daniel Spoerri was purchased in 1990 and installed in 2004. The reason was the redesign of the Börsenhof near the House of Citizens , when the cultural authority, with the support of the Wohnliche Stadt Foundation, built the fresh water fountain. The technical implementation was the responsibility of the architect Johannes Schneider. Two other copies of the sculpture are in a private garden and in Spoerri's Il Giardino sculpture garden near Seggiano , south of Siena .

The cultural authority explains u. a .: “Vertical square bars protrude from the center of the plate-like basin, which are parallel to each other and thus form a rectangle. At this square bars are mounted grinders .... In some places human hands and feet are the Wolf turned. Despite the macabre connection between meat grinders and human limbs, the fountain has a filigree structure ”.

The Swiss artist Spoerri (* 1930), an important exponent of object art , worked in Paris, Frankfurt am Main, Düsseldorf, Cologne and Tuscany . His works can be found all over Europe, but also at MoMa in New York and Japan. He is co-founder of the artist group Nouveau Réalisme and is considered the inventor of the art direction Eat-Art ( dining art ).
