The Surprise is a film for preschool children made by the DEFA studio for short films in the series The Special Day of Television in the GDR by Ernst Cantzler from 1975.

action

On a Berlin brush Street Station and decorate 15 children of a kindergarten , a tram of BVB to allow the driver to mark the International Women's Day to surprise. They also sing a song with which they want to thank all mothers and each child also mentions what makes their own mother stand out. Then comes the tram driver Mrs. Schulz, who is very happy about the tram, which the children have pasted with pictures they have painted themselves, and which has also had a face painted on the front. Inside, the train is decorated with tables, white tablecloths, flowers and garlands .

Two BVB employees are waiting at a bus stop with a cake and relieve Ms. Schulz from driving so that she can eat it with the children. At the following stations, because of the holiday, only women are allowed to get on, but they have to tell what job they do. The first woman to get on is a traffic policeman , a so-called " White Mouse ". It is 20-year-old Ulrike Kluge who says that she often regulates the traffic at intersections, but also explains the traffic rules to children in kindergartens and schools. When she gets out, the baker Edelgard arrives , who has to get up at 4:30 a.m. every morning to be on time at her place of work. Originally she wanted confectioner learn, but was refused an apprenticeship, they that now as a bread baker in bakery kombinat Berlin works. Now the pediatrician Mrs. Diederich, who works in the children's outpatient clinic in Friedrichshain , joins them . She also talks about her job and that which she has a lot of fun with. Production and publication

The surprise was filmed as a result of the film series The Special Day on ORWO-Color and was broadcast for the first time on September 11, 1975 in the peep-box cinema of the first program on East German television. The first demonstrable performance on a big screen took place on December 15, 2019 in the Berlin Zeughauskino .
