The silent Don ( Russian Тихий Дон ) is a seven-part television production (RUS / GB / I). It is based on the novel of the same name by the writer Michail Scholokhov , for which he received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1965 . Directed by Sergei Bondarchuk . Since he died in 1994, the film was only finished in 2006 by his son Fyodor Bondarchuk (assembly work). In 2006 Russian television broadcast a 7-part mini-series. In the same year an abridged version was released on DVD.
