The Dera Ismail Khan Airport or also known as Airport DI Khan is located 10 km from the city of Dera Ismail Khan, a town in the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Pakistan.

history

Dera Ismail Khan Airport was closed after the outbreak of the war in Afghanistan in 2001 for reasons that were not explained in detail. The airport reopened in 2006 when a delegation from the Islamabad region visited. The cost of reopening was Rs. 4 million. The money was used to repair the runways and the terminal building. The only active airline was the PIA , which offered flights to Islamabad, Multan , Peshawar and Zhob through a feeder line. The airport operator, CAA, decided that the airport should also offer domestic and international flights to provide convenience for people working abroad and the business community. The first flight was planned from Islamabad to Peshawar. However, the idea of offering international flights was rejected again.

Infrastructure

Dera Ismail Khan Airport is not one of the largest airports in Pakistan as it is more intended for the population of Dera Ismail Khan. The airport is designed for smaller aircraft such as the Fokker F-27 and ATRs . The airport is currently not equipped for larger aircraft such as Airbus or Boeing . The airport has a train with the direction 12/30. The airport is located near Chashma Road. Chashma Road starts from Sheikh Yousif Chowk and goes to Kokar, Paharpur, Bilot Sharif and about 80 km from Chashma Nuclear Power Plant near Mianwali. In 2015/16 there were 61 national passengers and 10 aircraft movements. For the future it is planned that the airport will be further expanded and will also offer international flights in the future in order to offer relief to the population in the region.

Airline and destinations

Dera Ismail Khan Airport currently only offers domestic flights to Islamabad, Peshawar and Zhob.
