Desmond Trufant (born September 10, 1990 in Tacoma , Washington , United States ) is an American football player on the position of cornerback . He played for the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL) from 2013 to 2019 and is currently a free agent .
Early years
Trufant went to Woodrow Wilson High School in Tacoma. His talent as cornerback was shown early on. Several colleges made him an offer. He chose the University of Washington .
NFL
Atlanta Falcons
Trufant was selected 22nd in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons . Here he signed a four-year contract. In his first season, he set a still-standing franchise record for the Atlanta Falcons by defending 17 passes in his rookie season. He also got 70 tackles , two interceptions and a forced fumble in his first season . On November 29, 2016, Trufant was placed on the Injured Reserve List due to a shoulder injury . The Falcons reached the Super Bowl LI , which was lost 28:34 to the New England Patriots . However, Trufant could not take part in the game due to his injury.
On March 18, 2020, the Falcons released Trufant.
Detroit Lions
On March 25, 2020, Trufant signed a two-year contract with the Detroit Lions .

Desmond Trufant's older brothers Marcus Trufant (including Seattle Seahawks ) and Isaiah Trufant (including New York Jets ) both played as cornerbacks in the NFL.
