Deoxyuridine (short dU or DNA sequences only U ) is a nucleoside and consists of the nucleobase uracil and the sugar β- D -Desoxyribose . It is seldom found in DNA, as usually only deoxythymidine functions as a base partner of adenine .

Deoxyuridine differs from deoxythymidine , one of the four main components of DNA , only in the lack of a methyl group . The methyl group slightly stabilizes the double-stranded form of DNA.
