Desultory ( English : haphazard / incoherent ) is a death metal band from Sweden .

Band history

1989 to 1996

The band was formed in 1989. In 1990 the band recorded the first two demos "From Beyond" and "Death Unfolds", in 1991 "Visions" followed. The Swedish record label "House of Kicks" released an EP called "Forever Gone" at the end of 1991 , which only contained tracks from the three demos and was limited to 1,000 copies. Shortly thereafter, the band signed a record deal with Metal Blade and in February 1993 the debut album "Into Eternity" was released. Matti Kärki from Dismember could be heard as a guest singer in the track “Depressions” .

After a European tour with Fear Factory , the second album "Bitterness" followed in the summer of 1994. After the quite successful tour with Samael and Cannibal Corpse , guitarist Stefan Pöge left the band in 1995 because there were different opinions between him and the rest of the band about the musical development. On the tour that followed, Håkan Morberg played rhythm guitar and Johan Bolin was hired as session bass player. The band recorded their third studio album "Swallow the Snake" as a trio, and in October 1996 it was released.

1997 to 2009 as "Zebulon"

At the end of 1996 the band decided to turn away from Death Metal stylistically and renamed themselves Zebulon in early 1997 . Johan Bohlin was hired as a permanent bass player, from then on Håkan Morberg only played guitar. Through the demo recorded in 1998, the independent label People Like You , a sub-label of Century Media , became aware of the band and signed them. At the end of 1999 the band had their first live appearance under the new name as the opening act for Entombed , and in early 2000 the EP “Cape Canaria” was released. In 2001 the album "Volume One" was released and after overcoming many problems with the recording in 2004 another album called "Troubled Ground". After that it became quite quiet around the band.

From 2009 on

In early 2009 the band renamed themselves again to Desultory and signed a contract for two albums with Pulverized Records . Håkan Morberg will be the lead guitarist in the future, while Johan Bohlin will be the bassist. The line-up also includes singer and guitarist Klas Morberg and drummer Thomas Johnson.

style

The first two albums are considered typical Swedish death metal albums. On the last album Desultory play Death'n'Roll in the style of Entombed in the times of Hollowman.

As Zebulon, the band no longer played death metal, but classic heavy metal with influences from punk rock and stoner rock .
