Detlef Korte (born May 5, 1956 , † December 9, 1995 ) was a German historian.

Life

In his youth, Korte was a member of the Communist League of West Germany (KBW) and belonged to the anti-nuclear movement . From 1978 he studied history at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel , where he received his doctorate in 1990. Even as a student he was involved in the working group for economic and social history in Schleswig-Holstein and in 1983 was one of the initiators of the founding of the working group for the study of National Socialism in Schleswig-Holstein (AKENS), which elected him as its spokesman. From 1984 Korte was a member of the Advisory Board for the History of the Labor Movement and Democracy in Schleswig-Holstein , which he had also co-founded. From 1992 until his death, Korte worked as a research assistant at the newly founded Institute for Schleswig-Holstein Contemporary and Regional History . Korte died of suicide in 1995.

Korte's work, as it was summed up, "was characterized by intense political commitment to a democratic, just and humane society that understands the legacy of the National Socialist past as a mandate and deals with it actively and responsibly." An example of this is the one with his doctorate Work started on the history of the Nordmark labor education camp , which met with great public response.
