Detlev Wannagat

Detlev Wannagat (born October 29, 1958 in Grevenstein ) is a German classical archaeologist .

Detlev Wannagat studied Classical Archeology, Ancient History and Art History at the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Heidelberg . The doctorate took place in 1990 with the thesis column and context. Pedestals and partial channeling in Greek architecture in Bochum. Before that, he worked at the Istanbul Department of the German Archaeological Institute , after which he traveled to the Mediterranean as a travel grant from the German Archaeological Institute . In 1992 Wannagat became a research assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt , in 1997 employed at the special research areas "Identities and Alterities" and "Forms and Ways of Acculturation" of the German Research Foundation , both based at the University of Freiburg . In 2001 he also completed his habilitation in Freiburg. In 2006, as the successor to Konrad Zimmermann , he was appointed to the professorship for Classical Archeology at the Heinrich Schliemann Institute for Classical Studies at the University of Rostock , where he has taught since then and is also head of the Archaeological Collection at the University of Rostock .

Wannagat is primarily concerned with ancient architecture, settlement archeology , Greek vase painting and the history of the reception of ancient art. Together with Ulrich Gotter and Kai Trampedach , he led research funded by the German Research Foundation in Uzuncaburç , the ancient Diokaisareia, from 2001 to 2006 . He is a corresponding member of the DAI.
