Detmar Jobst Wilhelm Westhoff (born February 28, 1966 in Bonn ) is a German art historian, curator and founder of Westhoff Fine Arts - Exhibition Services.

Career

Detmar Westhoff was born as the son of the art historian Hildegard Westhoff-Krummacher, who worked at the LWL Museum for Art and Culture in Münster. While studying art history at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main, he met the lecturer and former director of the Guggenheim Foundation Thomas M. Messer in a seminar , under whose guest curatorship at the Schirn Kunsthalle he took up his work after completing his studies. He was already focusing on modern art as well as the areas of art sponsorship and corporate identity. As an advisor to the management, he accompanied the Rudolf-August Oetker-Stiftung in its founding phase from 2000 to 2002 in the areas of monument preservation and museum art purchases. From 2001 to 2006 he built up the fundraising department in the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen (K20 / K21) and developed, for example, the KPMG art evening and the cooperation between Georg Baselitz and the Handelsblatt publishing group . Finally, Westhoff founded his exhibition agency for art exhibitions “Westhoff Fine Arts - Exhibition Services” in 2006 and has since worked as an exhibition maker and freelance curator in Europe and Asia. Westhoff also regularly takes on teaching assignments on the subject of cultural finance at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf and the Ruhr University in Bochum and initiates cooperation between students of art history and the professional world.

Westhoff Fine Arts - Exhibition Services

Since 2006, Westhoff has initiated, co-curated and coordinated exhibitions with a focus on modern art. There are also exhibitions in the fields of photography, fashion, fashion photography and old masters. Due to the good contacts in Asia and Europe, the field of activity of Westhoff Fine Arts includes not only the classic tasks of a curator but also the mediation of art exhibitions and art collections between Europe and Asia. This led to collaborations with collections such as the Städel in Frankfurt, the Belvedere Museum in Vienna, the Kunsthaus Zürich and with artists such as Andreas Gursky and Thomas Ruff .
