There is a German embassy in Panama City . Panama operates an embassy in Berlin and a consulate general in Hamburg. There are honorary consuls in Erzhausen , Dresden , Kiel and Sauerlach .

Around 1860, Germans from Texas tried to settle in the province of Chiriquí as farmers, but failed.

The German children's book classic Oh, how beautiful is Panama by Janosch describes an attempt to travel to Panama, which ends in the protagonists' old home.
