At the diplomatic level, German-Colombian relations have existed since 1872 and thus for more than 140 years. There is a German embassy in Bogotá .

Colombia operates an embassy in Berlin and a consulate general in Frankfurt am Main . There are honorary consuls in Bremen , Hamburg and Stuttgart .

history

The then Federal Minister for Special Tasks Heinrich Krone received the chairman of the Liberal Party of Colombia Carlos Lleras Restrepo in 1964 .

The German conquistador Ambrosius Ehinger died in 1533 near Chinácota in Colombia. In 1889 , Leo S. Kopp from Offenbach founded Sociedad Kopp's Deutsche Brauerei , which is now the largest brewery in Colombia as Bavaria SA .

In 1919 the German-Colombian Air Transport Company (Sociedad Colombo Alemana de Transportes / SCADTA) was founded as the second oldest airline in the world. Her successor Avianca is now the largest Colombian airline .

People born in Colombia with German ancestors include the poet León de Greiff (1895–1976), the sports shooter Helmut Bellingrodt (* 1949) and the drug dealer Carlos Lehder Rivas (* 1949).

According to the German Foreign Office, there have been "long, friendly and increasingly close relationships" between the two countries. Germany would like to continue to support Colombia in dealing with and coming to terms with the Colombian civil war .
