The relations between Germany and Guyana made since 1966 and the Foreign Office described as "friendly and free of problems."

Diplomatic relations

Diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany have existed since the year of Guyana's independence, 1966. On September 16, 2016, the 50th anniversary of mutual relations was celebrated.

Germany does not have an embassy in Guyana; the German embassy in Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago is responsible . Ben ter Welle has been Honorary Consul in Georgetown since November 18, 2010 . For its part, Guyana does not have an embassy in Germany. The embassy in Brussels in Belgium is responsible .

Economy and development

In 1994 a bilateral agreement to protect and promote investments was concluded. There are still relations between Germany and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) , of which Guyana is a member. In particular, projects for economic development and climate protection are carried out. In 2005 the G8 states decided to cancel the debt of numerous countries, including Guyana.

In development policy, the focus is on funding in the ecological area. So Germany finances u. a. Rainforest protection projects, since 1998 the “Guyana Protected Areas System” has been subsidized with a total volume of 24 million euros.
