Society for Operations Research

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Society for Operations Research eV (GOR) is the specialist society for the scientific field of Operations Research in Germany. It is organized as a non-profit association.

history

The history of today's society began in 1956 with the establishment of the Operations Research (AKOR) working group, which was more practically oriented, and the German Society for Corporate Research (DGU) , founded in 1961 , which came from the university sector . In 1972 both companies merged to form the German Society for Operations Research (DGOR) .

At the end of the 1970s, some members found that their theoretical interests were no longer represented by the more practical orientation of the DGOR. In 1979 they founded the Society for Mathematics, Economics and Operations Research (GMÖOR) . From 1995, however, joint conferences were held again. On January 1, 1998, the two companies merged to form today's Society for Operations Research .

Activities and organization

The central task of the Society for Operations Research is to promote the dissemination and use of Operations Research in science and practice. This is done primarily with the help of specialist publications (e.g. journals OR Spectrum and Mathematical Methods of Operations Research ), conferences, working groups and by promoting young scientists.

The GOR currently has a total of around 1,300 members - individuals and institutions from science, industry and administration. Contact between members and the exchange of information takes place via the website and the members' magazine OR News, which appears three times a year .

Working groups

The society is currently organized in 15 working groups:

Conferences

Once a year, an international, scientific conference, the Operations Research (OR) annual conference, is held with up to 700 participants from all over the world. The working groups of the GOR also organize individual conferences.
