German Model United Nations e. V. (DMUN eV) advocates political participation by young people. DMUN eV is the largest organizer of German-speaking Model United Nations conferences on political youth education and, as an officially recognized non-governmental organization, has the "Special Consultative Status to the ECOSOC ".

Projects

At Model United Nations conferences, pupils and students simulate a realistic United Nations conference . The participants take on the role of delegates from a state, a non-governmental organization or report as “journalists” in a simulated international press. You will learn the decision-making processes of the United Nations, deal with foreign countries and cultures and work out current issues of international politics from different perspectives.

Model United Nations Baden-Württemberg

Model United Nations Baden-Württemberg has been held annually in Stuttgart in spring since 2002 , from 2004 to 2014 in the Haus der Wirtschaft Baden-Württemberg, from 2015 to 2017 in the Liederhalle, 2018 in the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg and since 2019 in the Hospitalhof . Over time, the project grew, so that over 500 young people are now involved in a conference. As with all DMUN conferences, the conference language is German.

Model United Nations Schleswig-Holstein

Model United Nations Schleswig-Holstein has been taking place in the Landeshaus Kiel in the rooms of the Schleswig-Holstein Landtag since 2005 . Under the patronage of the President of the State Parliament, over 500 young people from all over Europe come together every year. A special feature at MUN-SH is a television team that reports on the conference in a daily news program.

Model United Nations Brandenburg

Model United Nations Brandenburg, the latest DMUN project, took place for the first time in August 2019 in the Brandenburg state parliament in Potsdam. The patron of the conference, at which around 280 students took part, was the President of the State Parliament, Britta Stark .

CampusMUN

CampusMUN took place for the first time in 2012 in Konstanz and for the last time in 2013 in Heidelberg . The conference was aimed at around 150 students. In contrast to what is usual for university MUN conferences, the conference language at CampusMUN was German.

Political work

In its political work, DMUN eV concentrates on the priorities of political participation by young people and sustainable development. In this context DMUN eV was a member of the "Road to Rio + 20" initiative and is currently actively involved in the "Global Coalition for Sustainable Development". Both MUNBW and MUN-SH are projects of the "United Nations Decade for Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014)" by UNESCO .

DMUN eV is a non-governmental organization accredited by the Department of Public Information of the United Nations. In addition, DMUN eV has "special consultant status " with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations .

The results of the simulated conferences will be presented to the real United Nations, most recently at the 64th annual conference of the UN Main Department for Press and Information (UN DPI) .

Both DMUN eV and the organized projects are part of the Young UN Network Germany .
