The Kommende Eschenbach was a branch of the Teutonic Order of the Ballei Franconia in what was later to be Obereschenbach and today is Wolframs-Eschenbach in Middle Franconia in the diocese of Eichstätt .

history

It is not known when the Coming was founded; the first written mention of a Teutonic order house in Eschenbach comes from 1236. It was a foundation of the Counts of Wertheim an der Tauber . During the 13th century, the order gradually acquired the entire town of Eschenbach and larger properties in the vicinity. In 1253, an Eschenbach commander and six other friars appeared for the first time when, among other things, they replaced their 12th century church with a larger one. Between 1306 and 1315 the Kommende lost its independence and was affiliated with the Deutschordenskommende Nürnberg , which Eschenbach administered through a Vogt (→ Stadtvogteiamt Eschenbach ). In 1332 the Franconian ballot received under Landkomtur Heinrich von Zipplingen from Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian for his village Eschenbach the Weißenburg town charter , ie fortification rights (the walling of Eschenbach took place until 1440), market privileges and neck jurisdiction . In 1347 King Charles IV renewed the award. In 1623 the Teutonic Order Palace was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the city center. When in the late 18th century the order's administrative reforms unified the Franconian order province with the German master territory, the office of Eschenbach came to the Oberamt Ellingen .

By decree of April 24, 1809, Napoleon I repealed the Teutonic Order in all states of the Rhine Confederation , thus also in (Ober-) Eschenbach.
