Devin White (born February 17, 1998 in Springhill , Louisiana ) is an American football player in the position of linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for Louisiana State and was selected by the Buccaneers in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft .
Early career
White attended North Webster High School in Springhill, Louisiana, where he was a preeminent linebacker and running back.
White was a controversial high school recruit and had several problems with the police. In November 2015, he and teammate Keuntra Gipson were arrested for having consensual sex with a 14-year-old, a Louisiana crime. A month later, White was arrested for "negligently driving a motor vehicle and escaping from an officer." Due to the legal situation, White was released from the Under Armor All-America Game 2015. Despite this controversy, he was able to enroll at LSU to play football.
college
In his first year at LSU, he played all 12 games and got a place on the SEC's all-freshman team . In his sophomore season at LSU, White led the SEC at tackles. He had a total of 133 tackles, the fourth most common tackles in a single season in school history. He also became the first player in SEC history to be named Defensive Player of the Week four times that same season. After his sophomore year, White decided to forego his senior year and sign up for the 2019 NFL Draft.
NFL
White was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round with the fifth pick of the 2019 NFL Draft . He is the LSU Tigers' highest-elected defensive player since Patrick Peterson in 2011.
On July 20, 2019, he signed his four-year rookie contract with a team option for a fifth year.
