Dewey Whitley Lambdin (born January 21, 1945 in San Diego , California ) is an American author of (military) historical novels.

Life

Lambdin is the son of a US Navy officer . After finishing school he attended Castle Heights Military Academy , Lebanon (Tennessee) , where he successfully graduated in 1962. In the same year he began to study “liberal arts and theater” at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville . Lambdin broke off this course without a degree and moved to Montana State University in Bozeman and was able to successfully complete this course in 1969.

For the next few years, Lambdin worked as a director - sometimes as a producer - for various TV stations. After his first attempts at writing during his studies, he began to work seriously on his debut as a writer. His first novel was published in 1989. When he was able to repeat its success with the next works, Lambdin resigned from all other jobs and from then on devoted himself only to writing. Currently (2011) Lambdin lives near Nashville , Tennessee.

reception

Lambdin became known for his series about the naval officer Alan Lewrie , who fought against Napoleon as a member of the Royal Navy . In the opinion of the readers as well as the official literary criticism, Lambdin and his protagonist are in line with CS Forester ( Horatio Hornblower ), Alexander Kent ( Richard Bolitho ) and Dudley Pope ( Lord Ramage ). According to our own statements, authors such as Henry Fielding , Tom Jones and others were (and are) a. been great role models for him.
