DiVa Walk
The DiVa Walk is an approximately 105 km long circular hiking trail in the Osnabrück region and is located in the TERRA.vita nature and geopark . The name is made up of di nosaurs and Va ruspark. The abbreviation refers to the dinosaur tracks from Barkhausen and the Varus Battle in the Kalkriese region . Parts of the hiking trail can also be hiked in six individual tours. The DiVa Walk is a predicate trail .
The hiking trail leads through the towns and communities of Belm , Wallenhorst , Bramsche , Bohmte , Ostercappeln and Bad Essen .
The special features of the hiking trail include more than 15 rest areas and over 30 rest benches as well as 24 hiking boards. The hiking trail is integrated into the hiking guidance system and offers good orientation options.
The hiking trail leads past numerous stone and tumuli, mills, museums, old stone churches, castles, palaces and water mills.
Criticism of the naming
The naming was already discussed controversially in advance. Those responsible for the Varus region in the Osnabrücker Land tourism association wanted to free hiking from the dusty image of hiking by naming it as a “walk”. Thomas Paulwitz , editor-in-chief of Deutsche Sprachwelt , criticized: “So finally, 'allowed to do something different' and - how extremely new and courageous! - Borrow a word from the American vocabulary for a change, because nobody else does that? Because the German words 'Weg' or 'Steig', yes, the German language is dusty? Those responsible are on the wrong track ”. In the spring of 2009, a group of strangers pasted over forty markings, hiking boards and information signs over the word "Walk" with the German name "Weg". Citizens spoke out in letters to the editor who called for the trail to be renamed.
