The Diamond HK36 "Super Dimona" is a two-seater touring motor glider from the Austrian manufacturer Diamond Aircraft based in Wiener Neustadt . It is a further development of the Hoffmann H36 Dimona. The HK36 is powered by Rotax engines between 80 and 115 hp (60 and 86 kW). The H of the type designation stands for the main designer Wolf Hoffmann, the K for the co-designer Dieter Köhler.

The Dimona (manufacturer Hoffmann) was equipped with the Limbach L2000 engine and tail wheel chassis , while Diamond switched to the manufacturer Rotax and produced the machines now known as HK36 Super Dimona with the Rotax 912 (without turbocharger ) and 914 (with Turbocharger), for which the engine mounts and panels had to be adapted. Other differences are the lack of windows behind the hood frame and the optional winglets available for the Super Dimona . Diamond later developed the DA20 Katana from the Super Dimona . Changes to the landing gear (nose wheel instead of tail wheel) as well as new, shorter wings with flaps and a shortened fuselage with reduced rudder and horizontal stabilizer turned the motor glider into a two-seater light aircraft . The nose wheel landing gear is now also available from the Super Dimona, so that outwardly - apart from the larger wingspan and the larger tail unit of the Super Dimona - hardly any differences are noticeable between the Super Dimona and the Katana.
Use as a tow plane
Due to their comparable flight characteristics to modern gliders, the Super Dimonas equipped with the Rotax 914 engines are particularly suitable as a tow plane. Gliders up to a maximum take-off weight of 600 kg may be towed, with the 115 HP engine up to 750 kg.
