history

The five-seat aircraft was unveiled unofficially in December 2006 at a company Christmas party. The final assembly of the DA50 was to take place in London in the Canadian province of Ontario . The Superstar will be certified first for the American and then for the European market. The delivery dates for the Magnum (end of 2009) and the Superstar (end of 2010) have been postponed again, as the orders so far have allegedly been lower than expected (source: Peter Maurer in Flying Magazine, February 2009).

construction

Engine

The plane should be adjusted to the FADEC -driven engine Teledyne Continental TSIOF-550J be equipped with 350 hp and double turbocharger. Two turbodiesel engine variants with 170 hp ( DA50 Magnum alias "DA50 light") and 270 hp from our own development in cooperation with Austro Engine and MBtech based on Mercedes-Benz engines were in the works. The 170 PS turbodiesel engine based on the Mercedes-Benz engine 2.0 flew in a DA40 for the first time on July 11, 2007 and has been EASA- certified since January 2009 . The 270 hp engine was to fly in the DA50 for the first time in 2010.

cell

The DA50 has an integrated air conditioning and oxygen system, electrically adjustable pedals and control sticks as well as a folding rear seat bench. A total rescue system is offered as an option . The cockpit has three Garmin G1000 screens.

Versions

DA50 SuperStar

The maiden flight of the DA50 SuperStar took place on April 4, 2007 in Wiener Neustadt. The aircraft was presented to the public for the first time during Aero Friedrichshafen (April 19-22, 2007). The start of production was planned for January 2008 and delivery from mid-2008. In June 2007 the dates were postponed by one year after 2009. The reason was the redesign of some components, u. a. of the wing. The prototype is based u. a. on components of the DA42 and DA40. On July 23, 2007, the aircraft was presented to the American public for the first time during the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh trade fair . With a deposit of $ 15,000, delivery items could be reserved. The prototype flew more than 50 hours by mid-2007.

DA50 Magnum

After nine months of development , the DA50 Magnum made its maiden flight in Wiener Neustadt on May 14, 2008 . It is the second flying DA50, equipped with the Austro Engine AE 300 2.0 with 125 kW (170 PS). The DA50 Magnum has a take-off weight of 1480 kg (135 kg less than the more powerfully motorized DA50 SuperStar) and offers seating for four passengers.

DA50-JP7

On January 19, 2015, the first turbine-powered variant took off on its maiden flight in Wiener Neustadt. This is called DA50-JP7 (JetProp) and should be able to be equipped with up to seven seats. An AI-450S with 341 kW power from the Ukrainian manufacturer Motor Sitsch is used as the engine . This has a dual electronic motor control with a mechanical backup system. Two variants are to be built, of which the Tundra version with larger wheels and reinforced chassis is intended for use on unpaved slopes. The approval of the machine was planned for the second half of 2016.

DA50 RG

This revised version of the DA50 with retractable landing gear flew for the first time on October 28, 2019.
