Diana Wiktorowna Vishneva ( Russian Диана Викторовна Вишнёва , mostly in English transcription Diana Vishneva ; born July 13, 1976 in Leningrad ) is a Russian ballet dancer . Along with Sylvie Guillem and Swetlana Sacharowa, she is considered one of the most famous and highly paid dancers of our time.

Life

Vishnyova received her dance training at the Waganowa Academy in St. Petersburg, where she was taught by Lyudmila Kowaljowa , among others . During her training, she danced the role of Kitri in the ballet Don Quixote in the Mariinsky Theater . After graduating in 1995 she was accepted into the Kirov Ballet , where she was appointed first soloist a year later.

In 2005 Vishnyova took on another position as first solo dancer at the American Ballet Theater in addition to her contract with the Kirov Ballet .

Vishneva's repertoire includes both the great classics of ballet history as well as modern works, some of which were specially choreographed for them. In addition to her appearances at the Kirov Ballet and the American Ballet Theater, she has made numerous guest appearances with the ballet companies of Munich ( State Ballet Munich ), Moscow ( Bolshoi Ballet ) and Paris ( Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris ). She is a guest soloist at the Berlin State Ballet , mostly as the partner of Vladimir Malachow .

In 2010 she founded the Diana Vishneva Foundation, a charity that aims to make ballet accessible to all social classes in Russia, the USA and Japan, to promote this form of art and to give it to young and retired dancers help.

  • 2007 premiere of the ballet Silenzio , staged by Andrei Moguchy and Alexei Kononov
  • 2007 debut in the Yuri Grigorowitsch Ballet with the play The Legend of Love
  • 2008 premiere of Beauty in Motion. Conceived by Sergei Danilian, produced by the President of Ardani Artists Management . Directed by Alexei Ratmansky (Pierrot Lunaire), Moses Pendleton (FLOW For Love of Women) and Dwight Rhoden (Three Point Turn). The program celebrated further premieres in New York (February 21-24) and Moscow (February 28-29). Critics praised the main role as an outstanding creative personality.
  • 2009 Leading roles at the American Ballet Theater in Frederick Ashton's ballet Sylvia and Alexei Ratmansky is on the Dnieper.
  • 2010 ballet premieres: The Lady of the Camellias in New York, La Péri in Berlin, Anna Karenina and Carmen Suite in Saint Petersburg.
  • 2010 Premiere of Rustam Khamdamov's film Diamonds at the Venice Film Festival
  • 2010–2011 work with the dance groups of Édouard Lock (New Work by Édouard Lock) and Martha Graham (Errand into the Maze). Premiere of the ballet Errand into the Maze in the Mariinsky Theater as part of the Diana Vishnyova Gala to celebrate her 15 years on the stage.
  • 2011 Premiere of the Dialogues project in the Mariinsky Theater. The project brings together works by famous choreographers, Martha Graham (USA), Paul Lightfoot, Sol León (Netherlands) and John Neumeier (Germany). It is a joint project between the Diana Vishnyova Foundation and the Mariinsky Theater with the support of the Ardani artists (USA).
  • 2012 The first International Diana Vishnyova Ballet Festival took place from April 13th to 15th, 2012 in Kazan, as Vishnyova has Tatar roots. During the festival, the audience had the opportunity to see a classical version of the ballet Giselle . The main roles were danced by Vishnyova and Marcelo Gomes, her stage partner at the American Ballet Theater . There was also a gala concert with contemporary choreography.
  • 2012 Vishnyova danced the ballet Lost Illusions with Alexei Ratmansky at the Bolshoi Theater
  • 2012 premiere of a new production of the John Cranko Ballet Onegin with the American Ballet Theater . The New York press commented that Vishneva's and Marcelo Gomes' performance as a duet in Onegin not only showed the beauty of dance, but also conveyed the true drama of Pushkin's novel.
