Diane Joyce Bish (born May 25, 1941 in Wichita , Kansas ) is an organist , composer and producer of the music television program The Joy of Music . As a concert organist, she regularly plays concerts in Europe and America .

education

In 1959, Bish graduated from Wichita East High School in Kansas, where she played the Austin Organ. In 1984 she gave a benefit concert there for the preservation of this organ.

Bish studied with Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam and with Nadia Boulanger and Marie-Claire Alain in Paris .

Career

Until 1990, Bish was more than 20 years the organist at the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale , Florida , where they make the 117-Registrar Ruffatti - organ designed in the sanctuary and planned.

In the early 1980s, she began producing the weekly music show The Joy of Music . Over 500 episodes were created in which one or more organs were always presented. The program can be seen daily on German television under the title “Organ Dreams” on the TV channel “ Bibel TV ”.

In collaboration with the Allen Organ Company , she designed a range of digital organs .

Awards

In 1989 she was honored with the National Federation of Music Clubs of America's highest honor .

Trivia

On October 30, 2002, Bish's home in Bloomington , Indiana burned down completely. She lost a grand piano and a Rodgers 940 digital organ in the flames. After the fire she moved in with her friend and accompanist Susann McDonald.

Bish made recordings on over 30 well-known organs, e.g. B. the Müller organ of the St. Bavo Cathedral (Haarlem) in Haarlem, Netherlands , Canterbury Cathedral , Notre Dame in Paris and the organ of the Freiburg Minster . Her music includes recordings for organ and orchestra, wind instruments and organ, cello and organ, many organ masterpieces and arrangements of hymns.
