Diane Wild (born April 20, 1961 in Lausanne ) is a Swiss billiard official and president of the Confédération Européenne de Billard (CEB). Before her career as a sports official and tournament organizer, she was an active fencer and began playing billiards in 1987. You became Swiss champion in both sports.

Career

Her mother was president of the Swiss Fencing Association and her father was president of the “Cercle des Armes de Lausanne” (French: Weapons Circle of Lausanne), the local fencing association. So her interest in fencing (foil) was preprogrammed. She started fencing at the age of six and became a member of the national team at the age of 14, to which she was a member until 1988. She received her schooling at the “Ecole Lémania”, among others. Then she studied biology in which she also graduated. She went to Brittany to do her doctorate . There she came into contact with billiards in 1987.

“That was during an internship in marine biology. One evening we were sitting in our hotel and the only thing we could do was play pool. In the course of the billiards games, I found that I really enjoyed the game. Immediately after returning to Switzerland, I looked for a club and then started with disciplined and targeted training. "

For some time she played both sports in parallel, but then swapped the foil for the cue . The daily training units alongside her studies had become too strenuous for her.

“Competitive fencing was no longer a pleasure for me. I began to see it as more of a drag. Because of this, I preferred to quit my fencing career. So I gave preference to billiards and dedicated myself to this sport with full commitment. "

From her parents she inherited the desire for competitive events, so she was also the organizer of the Fencing World Championships in 1987 in Lausanne. As a former delegate for international sport in the canton of Vaud, she worked for six years to ensure that various sports associations set up their headquarters in the canton. However, one of her greatest successes is the founding of a billiards school in her hometown.

She played her first European championship in 1989 in the French Salon-de-Provence , finishing eighth last. At the next European Championship in 1992 she was able to improve by one place, as was the case in 1993. There she met the Danish Marianne Mortensen (bronze at the 2017 World Cup). In 1994 the first podium followed with a silver medal in St. Wendel , the second followed in 1998 in Vienna . In 2002 she took part in an EM for the last time. In total she took part in seven EM.

In 1994 she started working full-time at the chemical company Merck . The employment relationship lasted until 2000. Since 2007, she has been under contract with Merck-Serono again.

Wild has been a member of the Lausanne city council since 2011.

Wild attracted international attention in 2011 when she announced the Lausanne Billard Masters invitation tournament for 2013 . Since 2013 she has been the vice-president of the CEB and on May 20, 2017 she was elected president of the largest continental association with 58 to 17 votes to succeed the Dutchman Bennie Degens. She is the first woman in this position. In her inaugural speech, she advocates more innovation, transparency and cooperation with the national associations. An attention she wants on the promotion and development of women's and youth competitions, as well as a stronger presence of border disciplines of Karambolagebillardsports art shock and 5-cone . The continuation of the multi-European championships in Brandenburg an der Havel in 2019 and beyond should also play an important role .
