Diarra Traoré
Diarra Traoré ( 1935 - July 8, 1985 ) was Prime Minister of Guinea in 1984 .
Political career
Traoré belonged to the Malinke ethnic group and was a colonel in the Guinean army. On April 3, 1984, he and Colonel Lansana Conté overthrew the interim president Louis Lansana Béavogui , who had recently succeeded the late long-time President Ahmed Sékou Touré . Conté became head of state as chairman of the military council and Traoré became prime minister on April 5, 1984. His cabinet consisted of 32 ministers and state secretaries, including 8 civilians. On December 18, 1984, Conté himself took over the powers of the head of government and abolished the office of prime minister. Traoré was still a member of the cabinet as Minister of Education.
After a failed coup attempt against Conté in June 1985, he and around fifty of his followers, mostly Malinke, were arrested and executed shortly afterwards.
