Mohamed Saïd Fofana

Mohamed Saïd Fofana (* 1952 in Forécariah , Basse-Guinée) is a Guinean politician. He was Prime Minister of Guinea from December 24, 2010 to December 26, 2015 .

Career

Fofana, who belongs to the Sousou ethnic group, attended primary school and high school in his hometown from 1958 to 1972. He then studied economics and finance for four years at the Institut Polytechnique Gamal Abdel Nasser in Conakry. Post-university studies took him to Romania in 1979/80.

In 1976/77 Fofana was a lecturer in economics at the Collège et lycée de Tabossi in Fria. From 1977 to 1984 he worked in the Ministry of Planning and Statistics. After a brief activity in the Ministry of Foreign Trade, he took over the post of Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in November 1985. In 2003 he was appointed National Director for Trade and Competition and in 2008 National Director for Foreign Trade. In 2009 he moved to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry as director for the coordination of projects.

On December 24, 2010, President Alpha Condé appointed Fofana, who is largely unknown to the public, to succeed Jean-Marie Doré in the office of Prime Minister. After Condé was able to achieve a second term in presidential elections in October 2015, and cabinet changes are common in presidential elections, Fofana resigned on December 23, 2016. On December 26, 2016, Condé appointed Mamady Youla , succeeding Fofana, as Prime Minister of Guinea.
