For the next five years he held the post of National Director in the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. In 1992 he left the public administration to serve as an economic advisor to the Ministry of Finance and Planning. politics

In 2007 Komara was one of four personalities who would have been acceptable to the opposition for the office of prime minister. But Lansana Kouyaté was preferred to him by the authoritarian President Lansana Conté . He inherited the office from his successor Ahmed Tidiane Souaré in December 2008, when Conté had died and the military Moussa Dadis Camara had taken power.

On the morning of December 30th, the appointment of Komara as Prime Minister was announced in a government press release on Guinea state radio. Later that day, Komara received a statement from Cairo declaring acceptance of the post. He arrived in Guinea the next day on a special flight from Cairo. By January 14, 2009, he formed a new cabinet made up of members of the military and technocrats - without involving civilian politicians. He stayed in office for more than a year. Subsequently, as a result of an attack on Junta President Camara, a new civilian government was formed with the involvement of the opposition under Prime Minister Jean-Marie Doré , which prepared for free presidential elections for the first time in Guinea's history.
