Diaz the bullfighter ( Spanish original title: ¡Ora Ponciano! ) Is a Mexican film from 1937. The melodramatic biography with western elements was directed by Gabriel Soria .

Ponciano Díaz, played by Jesús Solórzano , and Rosario, Consuelo Frank , have been in love since childhood, although they both live in different worlds: Rosario's father is a rich landowner, while Ponciano's father is just a simple farmer. When the two grow up, Ponciano saves his lover from a bull and then decides to become a bullfighter . While Ponciano is touring the country in this role, Rosario gives birth to a daughter. Her father forces her to enter a monastery so that her mother can raise the child. Some time passed until at the end of the film Ponciano returned, freed Rosario from the monastery and finally married.

The film Diaz the bullfighter is based on Ponciano Díaz (1858-1897), who was a well-known bullfighter in his homeland at the end of the 19th century. However, his private life may have been far less melodramatic than the film shows. The main actor, Jesús Solórzano, was also a bullfighter. The film was produced by Gabriel Soria with his production company Producciones Soria . In Mexico, where the film premiered on April 16, 1937, it was distributed by Columbia Pictures Mexico ; in December 1937, Cinexport Distributing brought it to theaters in the United States in its original language, and in August 1941 the work found its way into the cinemas of the Third Reich.
