Dice Tsutsumi

Daisuke "Dice" Tsutsumi ( Japanese 堤 大 介 , Tsutsumi Daisuke ; born November 6, 1974 in Tokyo Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese -American animator and illustrator from San Francisco , California . He is a former art director for Pixar Animation Studios .

Life

Daisuke Tsutsumi grew up in Tokyo and moved to New York City in 1993 to study at the School of Visual Arts . After graduating in 1998, he worked as an illustrator for Lucas Learning . From 2000 to 2010 he worked for Blue Sky Studios . He then started working at Pixar. On July 14, 2014, he left Pixar with Robert Kondo and founded Tonko House. For the short film The Dam Keeper , he was nominated for the best animated short film together with Kondo at the 2015 Academy Awards.

In addition to his work for the film industry, he published two comics in the Blue Sky Studios anthology Out of Picture and its sequel. He also draws oil paintings that have been shown at various exhibitions.

He is married to anime director Hayao Miyazaki's niece .
