Richard "Dick" Clifford Taylor (born January 28, 1943 in Dartford , Kent , England ) is a British musician and was a member of the original formation of the Rolling Stones . He is co-founder of the rock band The Pretty Things , of which he is still a member today.

Musical career

In the early 1960s he studied art at Sidcup Art College in London and founded the band Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys in Dartford together with Mick Jagger and his fellow student at the time Keith Richards . Ian Stewart , Tony Chapman and Brian Jones soon joined and the band name was changed to "The Rolling Stones" in 1962. In August 1962 Taylor left the band to continue his studies, but in 1963 he took over the lead guitar in the band The Pretty Things, which he had founded together with singer Phil May . The band caused a sensation in the early days with fans and in the media with their hard music and an exalted demeanor at the time and was treated as a competitor to the Rolling Stones. In 1968 Taylor was instrumental in the creation of their concept album S. F. Sorrow . After the commercial failure of this LP , he temporarily left Pretty Things. He produced Hawkwind's debut album and can also be heard on it as a guitarist. In the 1970s he was part of the punk band Mekons and had to work as a clothes seller until he returned to Pretty Things in 1980.
