SF Sorrow is a rock opera by the band The Pretty Things from 1968, released as an album . It is the setting of a short story by singer Phil May , who also designed the cover. The story of Sebastian F. Sorrow is told from his birth to death.
SF Sorrow did not sell well but had a huge impact on other musicians and bands. The Who especially benefited from the idea with Tommy . Under this influence, the Kinks also turned to more complex structures on their records and created concept albums . Today, SF Sorrow is considered a classic of the flower power era alongside Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band from the Beatles and The Piper at the Gates of Dawn from Pink Floyd .
The Pretty Things did not perform the entire work live until 1998 under the title Resurrection at Abbey Road Studios . With guest appearances by guitarist David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) and Arthur Brown as narrator, the show was broadcast on the Internet and recorded on CD and DVD .
