Diddl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diddl is a cartoon character by the draftsman Thomas Goletz , who was distributed by Depesche Vertrieb GmbH & Co. KG from Geesthacht from 1991 to 2014 . The new Diddl products have been marketed by United Labels AG under the Diddl Forever brand since November 2016 .

history

On August 24, 1990, Goletz made the first sketch of "Diddl", back then as a kangaroo . In later sketches, the kangaroo developed into a jumping mouse with large ears and huge feet. The Diddl mouse is not a comic figure in the strict sense, as it did not appear in comics, books or cartoons, but is a product that was invented exclusively for the sale of everyday objects . It was first seen in January 1991 on a 48-part postcard series. The cards eventually became coveted collectibles, which is why Telesche responded to the boom in 1992 and brought out the first plush toy Diddl. The first Diddl block sheets were produced in 1994 and triggered a collection and exchange fever in children and sometimes also in adults . Other products followed later, such as school bags, calendars, T-shirts, bed linen, stationery, mugs and glasses.

The Depesche Vertriebsgesellschaft , founded in 1985 with three employees, moved from Hamburg to Geesthacht, had around 350 employees in 2014, 220 of them in Geesthacht, and had sales in the three-digit million range. In addition, a monthly magazine (Diddls Käseblatt) is published with a circulation of 340,000 copies in three languages (German, French and Dutch), which from 2004 to 2009 was only available by subscription from Depesche or through dealers of Diddl products. It has been available in newsagents again since 2009.

The names of the other characters invented by Thomas Goletz over the years, such as the mouse Diddlina , Diddl's girlfriend, Teddy Pimboli , the hare Mimihopps , the sheep Wollywell and Vanillivi , the raven Ackaturbo , the horse Galupy , Merksmir , Bibombl , Professor Diddldaddl Blubberpeng , Hampfdiddl Bogart , Milimits , Tiplitaps , Frog-Brothers , Simsaly , Diddluigi , Dimmdann , Lalunaly and Lolli Lovebear are primarily intended to appeal to a young target group. Limited editions also made the products a popular collector's item and barter item.

In 2014, the Depesche Vertriebsgesellschaft announced that it would stop manufacturing Diddl products at the end of the year. The rights then went back to the author Thomas Goletz. The sales and marketing company Kiddinx Media has since acted as a licensing agency. The magazine Diddls Käseblatt , which is published by the publishing house Blue Ocean Entertainment , was not affected by the discontinuation .

In 2016, Thomas Goletz and Kiddinx Media decided to reissue Diddl products under the Diddl Forever brand . United Labels AG was won over as manufacturer and marketer . The elves Service GmbH , a subsidiary of United Labels AG, operates the Kinder products since November 2016 the official online store. An Instagram account was created on the occasion of the comeback in 2017 .
