The Superfluous is a German drama film directed by Aleksandra Kumorek that was first broadcast on June 11, 2007.

action

Germany in 2020: Three quarters of the working population was declared “superfluous” - human ballast that the highly productive society no longer needs. The German economy continues to flourish, however, with a few “productive” companies bringing record profits to the companies. China and India are the new boom countries to which millions of impoverished Europeans are emigrating, because anything is better than belonging to the armies of the superfluous.

What do you do with your life when you are "superfluous" in your early 20s? The 22-year-old Zoe wants to emigrate to Shanghai as a housekeeper. But suddenly her friend Clara is arrested and Zoe is summoned by the "Department of Internal Security". Because there is also resistance among the superfluous and Zoe has to decide where she stands.
