Max wants to write an essay about heroes, so he asks his grandfather to tell us about his experiences in World War II.
In 1944 the Jew Sonson lived in Hungary. While his sister-in-law Judith is actively involved in the resistance against the Nazis, Sonson tries not to attract attention. However, when his wife fell ill with cancer and was denied treatment as a Jew, Sonson was forced to reconsider his attitude. When the Germans invade Hungary and the Jews are threatened with deportation to Auschwitz, Sonson lets himself be persuaded to lead the resistance.

The Chosen - Heroes of Resistance is based on true events. It was shot in Bucharest, Romania and New York. The script was written by Gabriel de Mercur. Jasmin Dizdar directed. The film was produced by Michael Riley. In the UK, the film was released on DVD and shown on video-on-demand websites. German-language DVDs and Blu-rays are available in stores in Germany.

The Guardian's Phil Hoad thinks the film is just scratching the surface and looking a bit uncoordinated.
Volker Schönenberger writes that the film is "overall not a masterpiece, but a respectable war drama with a good balance between soft tones and dramatic events."
Timo Wolters explains the story works in particular "due to the authentic character drawings and equipment". However, one shouldn't expect a “fast-paced trench war film”.
Isabelle Milton thinks the film depicts the brutality that Jews faced during the end of World War II. However, the film doesn't show much that is new. Milteon also explains that the soundtrack will be played at the most inopportune moments within the film. She also believes that there is no such thing as great character development.
Rizaya Reviews thinks that there are various gaps in the gaps in the gaps in the plot, scenes with many clichés or familiarity with the plot. However, the film shows enough competent filmmaking to forgive these mistakes.
