The band they called Horse is a concert DVD by the German punk rock band Die Ärzte . It was released on August 23, 2004.

For the double DVD, the two appearances on December 13th and 14th, 2003, were recorded in the Oberhausen arena during the “Beyond the Limits of the Reasonable” tour . Directed by Norbert Heitker , who previously filmed several video clips for Die Ärzte, including the MTV unplugged concert Rock 'n' Roll Realschule . QFilmproduktion (picture) as well as Uwe Hoffmann and Die Ärzte (sound) are responsible for the production.

The DVD was originally supposed to be released under the name Das Auto des Jahres . The title ultimately chosen is a nod to the film A Man They Called Horse .

content

As part of the roughly three-hour concert, a total of 52 songs from all of the doctors' creative periods up to the then current album Gerärm will be played (nine of them combined in a medley). The song “Richtig schön evil” quotes “Police SA / SS” by Slime , while “Westerland” alludes to the Ramones several times . In addition, Bela repeatedly plays a sample from the cashier , which turns into a running gag , especially towards the end of the concert .

The band Fettes Brot , which was the support act for the doctors on the tour at the time, will take to the stage during the concert for the song “FaFaFa”. This moment is referred to as one of the highlights of the DVD in various reviews. On the second DVD, a small stage will be set up during the renovation break, which corresponds to the MTV unplugged atmosphere. Farin uses a semi-acoustic guitar, but Rod uses an acoustic bass.

DVD features

The concert can be viewed from several unusual perspectives. The “metrosexual” perspective offers a regular concert perspective and the “girls” perspective offers a view from the first series of concerts, while the “boys” perspective was recorded in the middle of the front of the audience. The DVD contains an Easter egg that can be seen when the Enter key on the DVD remote control is pressed during the song "Monsterparty". Then instead of the recording from the 13th, the one from December 14th will be shown.

The sound is available in stereo and 5.1 format ( Dolby Digital ). In addition, there are on the second DVD audio commentary by Rod, Farin and Bela, while on the first DVD Erl hums the songs.

In addition to the two DVDs, the band made a 73-page manual available on their website. It contains an exaggerated theoretical treatise on music and its distribution possibilities and the use of DVD.
