On the brink is a 90-minute episode of the German- Austrian television series Die Bergretter des ZDF . It is the third episode of the seventh season . Tom Zenker directed the film and Timo Berndt wrote the script .

Franz Marthaler is traveling alone in the mountains. He's looking for the wreckage of an old plane that crashed in the mountains 60 years ago. He slips and has to be rescued by mountain rescue, which ends his search for the day. Although he doesn't want to tell anyone what he's looking for, Peter Herbrechter finds out and accompanies him the next day. At the same time, Silke zu Hanstedt and the new mountain shop owner Ben Marasek set off with the same goal, as Silke is convinced that there is a lot of smuggled gold in the wreck.
Peter's son Tobias and mountain rescue director Markus have now found out what everyone is looking for. Out of concern for Franz and Peter, they also make their way to the wreck. The first four met in front of the plane. Little did they know that it stands unsafe and slips after stepping in. The wreck, which is now lying on a demolition edge, is secured by helicopter during the rescue operation. Ben as the last on the plane is saved by Markus with a spectacular action when the wreck can no longer be held and crashes.

Ulrich box thinking in the Frankfurter Neue Presse on Cliffhanger - Only the strong survive with Sylvester Stallone and writes: "The makers pay to a sufficiently strong background of action and memorable characters that are sent intertwined."
Audience ratings
The first broadcast on November 19, 2015 on ZDF was followed by a total of 4.06 million viewers, which corresponded to a market share of 12.6% of the total audience. For younger people between 14 and 49 years of age it was a market share of 6.2%. Compared to the other episodes of the seventh season, these were rather poor values and the weakest of the season, which can be attributed to the celebrity special of the RTL program Wer wird Millionär on the occasion of the RTL donation marathon, which meant strong competition that evening .
