The Frozen - The Musical (Original: Frozen - The Musical ) is a musical based on the Disney film The Frozen - Totally Cheeky . Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez composed the music and wrote the lyrics. The musical premiered in Denver on August 17, 2017 , and the first Broadway performance took place on March 22, 2018 at the St. James Theater . In Germany, the musical is to be performed in the Theater an der Elbe in Hamburg from March 7, 2021 .

Elsa has magical abilities. She accidentally lets winter break in on her kingdom of Arendelle. To protect herself and humanity, she fled. Her sister Anna goes looking for Elsa with Kristoff, his reindeer Sven and the snowman Olaf.

As early as January 2014, Bob Iger announced that Disney Theatrical Productions were already working on a musical version of the film Frozen - Totally Cheeky . In 2016, Disney officially announced the musical for the spring of 2018 on Broadway . Before the start, the musical made a guest appearance in Denver for a test run. The main roles of Elsa and Anna were played by Caissie Levy and Patti Murin . Both actresses were also hired for the Broadway production, which opened with pre-shows on February 22, 2018. The official premiere took place on March 22, 2018 at the St. James Theater . Jelani Alladin left the musical in March 2019 and his role as Kristoff was taken on by Noah J. Ricketts . A major cast change took place in February 2020. Ciara Renée , McKenzie Kurtz and Ryan McCartan took on the roles of Elsa , Anna and Hans .

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , gaming operations were suspended on March 11, 2020. As Disney Theatrical Productions announced on May 14, 2020, the musical will not return to Broadway after the Corona crisis. Thus, the musical was discontinued after 825 performances and 26 preview shows and is the first musical to fall victim to the pandemic in the USA.

The musical quickly became the most successful musical in the St. James Theater. By early December 2019, the musical grossed a total of $ 140,157,234.

A US tour based on the Broadway production began on November 10, 2019 in Schenectady , New York . This also had to be interrupted in March 2020. Disney Theatrical Productions intends to continue the tour in September 2020.

Germany

In March 2019, the makers of the musical confirmed that Frozen should come to Hamburg in autumn 2021 . Stage Entertainment has been looking for actors for the musical via its casting page since December 2019 . March 7, 2021 was named as the premiere date. Previews should take place from the end of February 2021.

United Kingdom

In addition to the German production, the British production was also announced in March 2019. The musical is to be performed there from October 2020 in London's West End . In December 2019 it was announced that Samantha Barks will play the lead role of Elsa .
