Robert Allen "Bob" Iger (born February 10, 1951 in Oceanside , New York ) is an American manager. Most recently, he was Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Disney Group . On February 25, 2020, he resigned with immediate effect. Bob Chapek was appointed as his successor .

Life

Iger was born into a Jewish family in Oceanside, New York . After finishing school, Iger studied at Ithaca College. After completing his studies, Iger first worked as a moderator for the weather forecast for a local radio station. In 1973 Iger moved to the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), where he worked his way up in the years that followed. From 1993 to 1994, Iger was president of ABC Network Television Group and then became president of Capital Cities / ABC. appointed, where he remained until 1999. In 1999 Iger replaced the previous President Steve Bornstein at the helm of ABC. January 2000 Iger rose to number two in the Disney group, where he worked for five years under President Michael Eisner . In 2005 Eisner was replaced by Iger under pressure from Roy Edward Disney .

Iger was appointed in June 2010 by US President Barack Obama as a member of the President's Export Council , a body that is supposed to advise the President on economic issues. From 2011 to September 2019, he also served on the Board of Directors of Apple , where he stepped down from his position due to competition from Disney and Apple streaming offers. In 2012 Iger was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

2016 he was selected by the trade magazine The Hollywood Reporter for the most influential person in Hollywood explained.

His annual salary amounted in 2018 to 66 million US dollars .

Iger is a second marriage to the former Ford model and television journalist Willow Bay. He has four children, two of whom are from his first marriage.
