Samantha Barks (born October 2, 1990 , Laxey , Isle of Man ) is a British musical artist and actress . She became known through the BBC casting show I'd do anything by Andrew Lloyd Webber , in which she took third place.
Life
Samantha grew up in her home Isle of Man , where she attended Laxey Primary School in Laxey and St Ninian's High School in Douglas before moving to London to graduate from The Arts Educational Schools (ArtsEd) in Chiswick .
Barks has been dancing since she was three and was a member of the Manx Operatic Society , where she continued to develop her acting skills. Even during her school days, she was on stage in various musical productions such as The Wizard of Oz , Guys and Dolls or Jekyll & Hyde .
In 2008 she took part in the BBC casting show I'd do anything , in which Andrew Lloyd Webber played the female lead in his new production of the musical Oliver! sought. Barks made it into third place behind Jodie Prenger and Jessie Buckley . A short time later she made her debut in London's West End as Éponine in Les Misérables , which she was able to perform with great success at the 25th anniversary concert of the musical.
On January 31, 2012, musical producer Cameron Mackintosh announced after a performance of the musical Oliver! , in which Samantha played the role of Nancy until April 2012 , that Barks got the coveted role of Éponine in Tom Hooper's musical adaptation of Les Misérables .
Since 2018, Barks has played the role of Vivian Ward in the musical Pretty Woman , played by Julia Roberts in the original film . Samantha Barks also made her Broadway debut with Pretty Woman in July 2018. At first she played the role in Chicago. In 2019 she was cast as Elsa in the West End musical production of Die Eiskönigin - Völlig Unforzen (Original: Frozen). The musical is to be performed from 2020.
