Jessie Buckley (born December 29, 1989 in Killarney , County Kerry ) is an Irish actress and singer .

Life

Origin and early years

Jessie Buckley was born the oldest of five siblings, her mother worked as a vocal coach . At the age of 17 she moved from Ireland to London to pursue a singing career.

Musical and theater

2008 Buckley participated in the BBC - talent show I'd Do Anything in part, in which an actress for the female lead Nancy for the West End -Neuauflage of the musical Oliver! was searched. She finished second behind Jodie Prenger and ahead of Samantha Barks .

After the show, Buckley played in the 2008-09 season in the musical A Little Night Music by Stephen Sondheim , the role of Anne Egerman on West End Theater Menier Chocolate Factory . From 2010 she studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), graduating in 2013 with a BA (Hons) . She then appeared on stage at London 's Shakespeare's Globe as Miranda in The Tempest .

Movie and TV

In the four-part Rosamunde Pilcher production Four Women ( This September ), Buckley played Emily Strong in 2010/11 . In 2013 she lent Luna in the animated film Jack and the Cuckoo Clock ( Jack et la mécanique du coeur ) in the English version. In 2016 she played the role of Marja Bolkonski in the BBC production War and Peace directed by Tom Harper .

She played the role of Lorna Bow in the BBC television series Taboo with Tom Hardy in 2017 and had a leading role as Honor Martin in the BBC miniseries The Last Post . In the psychological thriller Beast (2017) by Michael Pearce, she played the female lead Moll Huntford on the side of Johnny Flynn as Pascal . She won the London Critics' Circle Film Award for Best British / Irish Actress in 2019 for her performance .

2018 Buckley played in the musical drama Wild Rose by director Tom Harper, the role of Rose-Lynn Harlan and in the BBC adaptation of the novel by Wilkie Collins The Woman in White , the role of Marian Halcombe . In March 2019 it was announced that she would take on the female lead in the Netflix production I'm Thinking Of Ending Things , directed by Charlie Kaufman and alongside Jesse Plemons . Brie Larson was originally intended for this role . In the five-part miniseries Chernobyl by HBO and Sky UK about the Chernobyl nuclear disaster , released in May 2019, she played the role of Lyudmilla Ignatenko, whose husband, Vasily , was exposed to radiation as a firefighter during the extinguishing work. In July 2019 it was announced that she would take on the role of Oraetta Mayflower in the fourth season of the US crime series Fargo . In the biopic about Judy Garland with Renée Zellweger in the lead role, she played the role of production assistant Rosalyn Wilder .
