The Giant's Fist is a two-part, German silent film drama from 1917 with Henny Porten in the lead role.

action

First part : The young Martina is married to the landowner Diether von Brake. But the happy days of this marriage are long gone, as her husband has completely devoted himself to gaming and neglected his wife, children and the farm.

To make matters worse, one day Martina also had to find out from Malte von Malchow, a friend of her brother-in-law Wend von Brake, that Diether was also unfaithful to her. She therefore takes her two children and leaves the estate with the intention of getting a divorce from Diether as soon as possible. But her husband doesn't give up that easily. He brings the children back to him and forces Martina to come back to him.

Second part : Although Martina has returned to her husband Diether, he has not changed in the least and is continuing his wasteful and irresponsible lifestyle. The gambling debts soon grow over his head, and so he has the forest cut down on his estate. The forester who warns him of the consequences chases him away. He also treats Wend, his brother, badly - when he asks for help, he throws him out of the house. Both Förster Gehrke and Wend do not leave without threatening Diether with serious consequences.

One day the angry man is dead; Diether's body is found in his Berlin apartment. Immediately the suspicion falls on forester Gehrke. But then, surprisingly, Malte von Malchow confesses the deed: in love with Martina, he wanted to free her from the tyrannical husband. While the forester is released and returns to his forest, Malte takes his own life.
